' One ' ( Chinese: 一 )

What is the meaning of 'one' , 一 in Chinese perspective?
We can try to see how 'one' explained in the Han dynasty.

Here, we could find the material from the book Shuowen Jiezi 說文解字 ' Explaining Simple and Analyzing Compound Characters' of Han dynasty edited by Xu Shen.


１上．【一】惟初太始道立於一。造分天地，化成萬物。凡一之屬皆從一。於悉切。【弌】古文一。
1A. Unity 一: It is, that the start of the Great Begin of the Way is based upon Unity. It divides Heaven and Earth and forms the ten thousand creations. All things related to "one" have the 一 as part of the character (元、天、丕、吏). Pronounced like Y- and -I (yi). 弌 is an old character for 一.

The concept of Yellow Box

It is lucky enough to know that Mr. Johnson Chang will go to UK for his idea of the concept of the White Cube and the Yellow Box. As my current argument of my research is related to this concept !
It is pity that I will have no chance to attend his presentation but for sure will follow up this issue closely afterwards !

杭州 Project

It is so great to work with the people in the mainland China, some how.
See this image, is the projection wall for my interactive work in the Central Academy of Art at HanZhou (杭州).
There is originally has 2 trees in front of the building ( pls check with my previous page [杭州] ), then they made it disappear for the show !
Cool right ! only happens in two day discussion !
I am sure in HK, it will take two years time discussion and application but " no result" can be made eventually !
It is my exhibition when I applied my another work for the outdoor projection project in HK since 1996. It takes a lot of adm. procedure.....! but nothing can be worked out afterward !

The statement of 策展人 2008
一. 关于四季
就算时隔千年，地限东西，人们从不曾对四季感到漠然。
四季植根在自然的土壤上，我们时而乐享其成，时而隐忍相待。躬行者动手，使四季如春；高蹈者养心，便等视寒暑。养心者，人见其超然于物外；躬行者，显示其奋发而沉实。
播种、收成、劈柴、生火，沿着隆冬的麦隆取冰入窖，也枕着婆娑的竹影安然入梦……千百年来，四季造就俯仰以之的文明。即使抱定“草不谢荣于春风，木不怨落于秋天”的主张，却毕竟要借着那变动者显示岿然不动、借助那压迫者见证处变不惊。
我们不能改写四季，然而在动手养心之间成人，并获得尊严。关于四季，我们这样无奈，但也如此自由。
四季从此浓缩了自然与人间的种种事象，也凝聚了我们对这种种事象的态度：
无所逃于天地之间，从而不能不面对——绝不像某些影子令我们表情冷漠。
无从限制我们的心力，反倒刺激亲切的向往和淳朴的想象——这时那些灰色的理论将自动退场。
我们因而断言：关于四季的咏唱，将与自然同其终始，与人生同其丰富，与历史一样多变。

jet lag: Zurich 2008

What you can do when u are jet lag in Zurich ?
suggestion:
1) first sleep at 10:00pm
2) then wake up at 6:00am
3) go to hiking in the mountain of Zurich
4) non stop
5) repeat this activities at least two days
6) then you body clock will be turned back to the normal !

Zurich 2008

Time flies ! surprisingly it is already my 5th time to be in Zurich.
I just met one ex-student in HK last time, he told me that he envies me so much when he notice that I have been many cities and the photos are always posted in the blog!
But I just want to let him know, 10 out of my 10 trips are always for working studying, exhibition, etc. To be honest, it is not much fun. Under heavy pressure and the schedule is very intensive ! It is absolutely different from hanging out for traveling !

In this session, totally intensive than before, writing paper, re-do the presentation, response session..........and need to head back to China for another exhibition that I need to leave Zurich this time more earlier than usual..............catching the transit flight............many many......
my dear student...u are really luck to be a student, pls do enjoy the rest of your valuable time in the school la ! ;-)
