There is a day I come out an idea to make a head for every one of us in imhk lab. It is so super that ah Sing who is able to visualise it afterward! Then I modify it a bit with him today at School and eventually come out in this look ! :P

王雅慧

王雅慧 is one of my friends who take care me so much when we all in NYC.
I feel so glad to meet her again in SH !
She is one of the artists who represent Taiwan for Shanghai Biannual 2006. :-)

Here, have to express my great thanks to Keith Lam for his amazing music for my interactive work in SH. Almost all the people like the music so much and it does match the whole theme of the work even the whole concept of the exhibition ! Keith, Thanks indeed !





Also, Sing is a amazing boy that help me a lot for the production and the final stage including report, design and news letter ! Super ! But don't play too late at night...hheheeee ! :-

<豐胸城市，瘦身文字>
洪強 + imhk lab 作品 2006

文字用於溝通，城市用於居住，但二者都具有教化的意義，其中承載著歷史的經驗和中國人的信仰方式。繁體字演變成簡體字，舊城市變成新城市，不僅是為了發展，而且還意指了一種進化或變革的象徵意義？它們都是一種創造性的建構、解構和重構？
現今中國城市由一個傳統的城市模式急促發展到現在的高科技區域，和中國文字由傳統的繁體字到現在的簡體字的發展一樣，對我這一個生於中國、成長于香港的中國人來說，又有著一個欲拒還迎、欲即欲離、令你愛恨交織的複雜感覺。一方面，你會對這個新中國想知道多一點，總想她走快多一點，但另一方面，你又覺得她不太念舊，只願一味前進。
因此，我的作品就是想邀請觀眾進入這種變化 / 發展 / 進化的情境中，並在自己身體運動的認知和感知過程中體驗“要成為還是不要成為”，什麼是應該，什麼是不應該，又或是怎樣的反應才算是接近“應該”的意義。
這是一件滲有互動性的裝置藝術作品，我將會在畫廊通道中懸置兩個投影屏[一左一右]，觀眾看到自己的影像被時間記錄和傳輸在屏幕上。同時，屏幕空間中會漂浮大量“繁和簡”的中文字元，它們像小蟲子一樣縈繞在觀眾周圍。兩個屏幕中蟲子的動態是完全不同的。觀眾將經歷一次關於“變化或不變”，“運動或靜止”，“要成為還是不成為”的不同體驗。置身於這件互動作品，有著一個令你有如置身兩難的局面。在作品中，你可在同一時間見到兩個自己。在左面的你，如你愈是走開，“繁和簡”愈是加快追蹤著你。但同一時間，在右方的你，反而要愈走愈開，“繁和簡”才不能追蹤著你。這兩種不同情緒卻又同時發生在眼前，利用自己身體去同時感受到對錯矛盾，正是藝術家想表達的那種欲即欲離和欲拒還迎的經驗。

"Bloated City | Skinny Language"

Words are for communication and cities are for living, but the two both carry a cultivate meaning, which is bearing the historical experience and way of Chinese beliefs. Traditional characters became simplified characters; old cities have become new cities, not only for the function of development, but also indicating a symbolic meaning of evolution or revolution? All are the creative construction, deconstruction or reconstruction?

Today’s Chinese cities are transforming from a traditional model into today’s high-tech areas, just as Chinese characters transformed from traditional characters into simplified characters. For me, a Chinese born in China and raised in Hong Kong, this creates conflicting desires, making you feel love and hate all at once. On the one hand, you want to know more about this new China, always want it to move more quickly, but on the other hand, you want it to be nostalgic, and only move forward slightly.

This is an interactive installation work. There will be two projected screens [left & right] in the corridor/tunnel, the audiences will see the real time images of themselves have be recorded and transmitted onto the screen. At the same time, there will be numerous Chinese characters floating in the space which act like insects/bugs chasing the audience. The behaviors of those ‘bugs’ are totally different on the left and right screens. The audience will encounter a different experience about “change or unchanged”, “move or stay”, “to be or not to be”. Standing amidst the interactive work, one has a feeling that their body is between a rock and a hard place. In the work, you can see two of yourself at the same time; on the left is you, and the further you walk away, the “complex and simplified” follow you even faster, yet at the same time, the you on the right, the further you walk away, the “complex and simplified” are unable to follow you. These two dissimilar situations unfold simultaneously before your eyes, you use your body to feel a contradiction, which is exactly the experience of wanting to get close and far that the artist wishes to express.

Media Art Festival Friesland
It is so honor for me to be invited by Foundation Media Art Friesland, The Netherlands, this year that my video work: "Upstairs/ Downstairs - a dialogue with Hong Kong: "The Story of Human Activities of 1,440 mins in 24 hours" 「1440分鐘的人類活動故事」 " will be included in their the 10th Anniversary Event: Decennium Book with DVD for the publication.
